Notice: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open pipes and passages.

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing the fuel system components.

Important: There is no service interval for replacement of the in-pipe fuel filter . Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if the filter is restricted.

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
4. Disconnect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Remove the mounting bracket retaining bolt.



7. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter and the mounting bracket.
8. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter from the mounting bracket.

Notice: Always re-attach the fuel lines and fuel filter with all original type fasteners and hardware.

1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-pipe fuel filter.
2. Slide the in-pipe fuel filter into the mounting bracket.
3. Install the in-pipe fuel filter and the mounting bracket.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the mounting bracket retaining bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft)




5. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
6. Connect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.

Important: Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-pipe fuel filter from turning.

7. Tighten the fuel filter outlet nut.

Tighten
Tighten the outlet nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft)

8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Tighten the fuel filler pipe cap.
10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
11. Inspect for fuel leaks.

11.1.

Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds.

11.2.

Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.

11.3.

Turn the ignition the ON.

11.4.

Inspect for leaks.
