Notice: The catalytic converters require the use of unleaded fuel only. Using leaded fuel will damage the catalytic converters and other emission system components.
The catalytic converter is an emission-control device added to the gasoline engine exhaust system to reduce hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxide pollutants from the exhaust gas. The gasoline engine in this vehicle use a three-way catalytic converter that uses rhodium. The catalyst in the converter is not serviceable.
The three-way catalytic converter is mounted in a pipe located between the right exhaust manifold and the exhaust system. The pipe has flanges at both ends and a flange gasket at the exhaust manifold to seal the exhaust system. The pipe has a tapped hole after the three-way catalytic converter that a heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) threads into.
