Removal Procedure

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the serpentine belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  3. Remove the water pump pulley.
  4. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  5. Raise the vehicle.
  6. Remove the right front splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor.

  8. Object Number: 12305  Size: SH
  9. Remove the camshaft position sensor retaining screw.
  10. Remove the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor from the engine front cover.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the camshaft position sensor to the engine front cover.

  2. Object Number: 12305  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the camshaft position sensor retaining bolt.
  4. Tighten:
    Tighten the bolt to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  5. Connect the camshaft position sensor electrical connector.
  6. Install the serpentine belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  7. Install the water pump pulley.
  8. Tighten:
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the right front splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  10. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  11. Lower the vehicle.
