Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  2. Remove the cross vehicle brace. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  3. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  4. Remove the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  5. Remove the liquid line from the bracket.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.

  8. Object Number: 540901  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor (1).

  10. Object Number: 540905  Size: SH
  11. Remove the liquid line nut at the condenser.
  12. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Object Number: 491758  Size: SH
  14. Remove the liquid line nut at the orifice.
  15. Disconnect the transmission shift cable retainer from the strut tower and position aside the transmission shift cable.
  16. Important: Use care when removing the tube.

  17. Remove the liquid line.
  18. Remove and discard the O-rings.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The new O-ring seals must be lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  1. Install new O-ring seals onto the liquid line. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the liquid line into place.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the liquid line nut at the orifice.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the liquid line nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Install the liquid line nut at the condenser.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the liquid line nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  10. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor (1).
  11. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Install the liquid line into the bracket.
  14. Install the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  15. Evacuate and charge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
  17. Install the cross vehicle brace. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  18. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
