Makes 🢒 Chevrolet 🢒 2000 🢒 Impala 🢒 Steering 🢒 Power Steering System 🢒 Objectionable Hiss in the Power Steering System

Problem

Action

Hissing noise when the following conditions exist:

    • The steering wheel is turned.
    • The vehicle is stationary.
    • More prevalent when brakes are applied.

If the noise is very objectionable, replace the service gear (a replacement gear will also have a slight noise, and is not always a cure for the condition).

Loose intermediate steering shaft seal at the steering column
  1. Service the intermediate steering shaft seal at the steering column. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  2. Replace the intermediate shaft seal at the column if necessary. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

Loose intermediate steering shaft seal at the power steering gear
  1. Service the intermediate steering shaft seal at the power steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  2. Replace the intermediate steering shaft seal at the power steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
