Problem

Action

The power steering high pressure line is grounding out

Inspect the power steering high pressure line for the following conditions:

    • The proper mounting. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .
    • The proper clearance. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .

Rack bearing preload is improperly adjusted

Tighten the rack bearing preload to specification.

Refer to Steering Gear Rack Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle .

Loose power steering gear

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification.

Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

Loose tie rod ends
  1. Inspect the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement
  2. Replace the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

Loose intermediate steering shaft universal joints
  1. Service the intermediate steering shaft universal joints. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  2. Replace the intermediate steering shaft universal joints. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
