Action

Air in the power steering system

  1. Inspect the power steering system. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Loose joints from the steering column to the power steering gear

  1. Inspect the joints from the steering column to the power steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  2. Replace the joints from the steering column to the power steering gear if necessary. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

Misadjusted rack bearing preload

Tighten the rack bearings preload to specification.

Refer to Steering Gear Rack Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle .

Loose power steering gear

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

Loose tie rod ends

Replace the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

Worn wheel bearings

    • Inspect wheel bearings. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Bearing Replacement
    • Replace the wheel bearings. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Bearing Replacement in Front Suspension.
