Problem

Action

Binding ball joints

  1. Inspect the ball joints. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.
  2. Replace the ball joints. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.

Front wheels are out of alignment

  1. Inspect the front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment
  2. Perform the front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment

Sticking steering gear valve

  1. Flush the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Flushing .
  2. Refill the power steering system. Refer to Refilling the Power Steering System .
  3. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  4. Replace the power steering gear if valve cotinues to stick. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

Loose power steering gear

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification.

Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

Intermediate steering shaft pinch bolt torque too high

Tighten the intermediate steering shaft pinch bolt to specification.

Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

Binding steering column

  1. Inspect the steering column alignment.
  2. Adjust the steering column alignment. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  3. Repair the steering column mounting. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  4. Inspect the steering column bearing.
  5. Replace the steering column bearing if necessary. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

Incorrect tire pressure

Inflate the tires to specification.
