DEFINITION: The A/C compressor clutch will not disengage when an A/C request has not been made and a Powertrain DTC has not been set.

Did you review the HVAC operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Place the blower motor switch in the OFF position.
  3. Place the A/C request switch in the OFF position.

Does the A/C compressor operate?

With a scan tool, observe the A/C Request Signal parameter in the powertrain data list 2.

Does the scan tool indicate that the A/C request parameter is OFF?

With a scan tool, observe the A/C Commanded parameter in the powertrain data list 2.

Does the scan tool indicate that the A/C Commanded parameter is OFF?

Test the control circuit of the A/C compressor clutch relay for an short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

With a scan tool, observe the A/C Switch parameter in the BCM Inputs.

Does the scan tool indicate that the A/C Switch parameter is ON?

Remove the A/C compressor clutch relay.

Does the A/C compressor clutch turn OFF?

Test the A/C compressor clutch voltage supply circuit, at the A/C compressor clutch for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the A/C switch request signal circuit for a short to ground, a high resistance, or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
