Test Description

  1. This step tests for a short to voltage in one of the speed control circuits.

  2. If no fault is found in Step 3 it is assumed that the blower motor relay is stuck closed and the blower motor will operate in high speed all the time.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Place the heater - A/C control in the VENT position.
  3. Place the blower motor switch in the OFF position.

Does the blower motor turn off?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the blower motor resistor.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Place the blower motor switch in the OFF position.
  5. Probe each speed control circuit (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the suspect speed control circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for shorted connections at the heater-A/C control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the heater - A/C control. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
