Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. A short to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit of the blower motor relay will cause the HVAC BLO fuse to open.

  2. This step tests for a high resistance or an open in the coil side feed circuit of the blower motor relay.

  3. This step tests for a high resistance or an open in the battery positive voltage circuit of the blower motor relay.

  4. This step tests the suspect speed control circuit for a high resistance or an open.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Place the heater - A/C control in the VENT position.
  3. Place the blower motor switch in each position (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5).

Does the blower motor operate in all speeds?

Does the blower motor operate in high speed (5) ?

Inspect the HVAC BLO fuse.

Is the fuse open?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the blower motor resistor.
  3. Probe the high speed (position 5) circuit with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  5. Place the heater - A/C control in the VENT position.
  6. Place the blower motor switch in the high position (5).

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Probe the switch side feed circuit of the blower motor relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the blower motor resistor.
  3. Probe the suspect blower speed control circuit (1, 2, 3, or 4) with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Place the heater - A/C control in the VENT position.
  6. Place the blower motor switch in the suspect position (1, 2, 3, or 4).

Does the test lamp illuminate?
