Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

IMPORTANT, On the Chevy Impala Police Vehicles Only (9C1) the rear compartment lid release is powered through the BCM with the ignition on. And will not open with ignition off.

  1. Transaxle in PARK.
  2. Press the rear compartment lid release switch to release the rear compartment lid.

Did the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Have transaxle remain in PARK.
  4. Using the scan tool view the Trunk Release Switch input.

Is the Trunk Release Switch input Disabled/Inactive/OFF?

--

While observing the Trunk Release Switch Input on the scan tool, press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Did the Trunk Release Switch Input change states?

--

While observing the Trunk Motor Output on the scan tool, press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Did the Trunk Release Motor Output change states?

--

  1. Connect a test light across the rear lid release actuator circuits.
  2. While observing the test light press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Did the test light flash?

--

Check for a poor connection at the rear lid release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Disconnect the rear lid release switch.
  2. Using the scan tool view the Trunk Release Switch Input.

Is the Trunk Release Switch Input still Active?

Test the rear compartment lid release input circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Connect a jumper across the rear compartment lid release switch circuits.
  2. Using the scan tool view the Trunk Release Switch Input.

Is the Trunk Release Switch Input Enabled/Active/ON?

Inspect for a poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Connect a jumper between the rear compartment lid release input circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch to a know good ground.
  2. Using the scan tool view the Trunk Release Switch Input.

Is the Trunk Release Switch Input Active/Enabled/ON?

  1. Remove jumper from previous step.
  2. Test the rear compartment lid release input circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect the rear compartment lid release input circuit for a poor connection at the harness connector of the Body Control Module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Connect a test light between the rear compartment lid release actuator output circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator and a known good ground.
  2. While observing the test light press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Did the test light flash?

Test the rear compartment lid release output circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
