Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Close the trunk.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Lamp Switch parameter in the Body Control Module data list.

Does the scan tool display Inactive?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar indicator switch.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Lamp Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Inactive?

Test the rear compartment lid ajar switch input circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar indicator switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear compartment lid release solenoid. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement in Body Rear End.

Important: Perform the set up procedure for the replacement BCM.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
