Removal Procedure
- Remove the
left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel,
Gages, and Console.
- Remove the accelerator cable (5) from the accelerator
pedal (1).
- Install a piece of mechanics wire to the accelerator cable to
aid in the installation of the new cable.
- Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs
and push the accelerator cable through the cowl.
- Remove the accelerator
cable shield, if equipped.
- Remove the accelerator cable from the retaining clip.
- Remove the cruise control cable from the throttle body lever.
- Remove the cruise control cable from the accelerator cable bracket.
- Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.
- Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket.
Important: Note the routing of the accelerator controls cable for removal.
- Remove the mechanics
wire from the cable and remove the cable.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within
50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can
be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference
and damage to the component.
- Install the piece of the mechanics wire to the new cable.
- Install the accelerator cable into the vehicle using the routing
noted during removal.
- Install the accelerator controls cable
through the cowl.
- Remove the piece of the mechanics wire from the new cable.
- Install the accelerator
cable (5 ) to the accelerator pedal lever (1).
- Install the accelerator
cable to the throttle body lever.
- Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator cable bracket.
- Install the cruise control cable to the accelerator cable bracket.
- Install the cruise control cable to the throttle body lever.
- Install the accelerator cable shield, if equipped.
- Install the accelerator cable to the retaining clip.
- Inspect for complete throttle opening and closing positions by
operating the accelerator pedal. Verify proper carpet fit under the accelerator
pedal. The throttle should operate freely, without binding, between a fully
closed throttle and a wide open throttle.
- Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in
Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
