Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  2. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  3. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 61836  Size: SH
  5. Remove the lifter guide bolts.
  6. Remove the lifter guide.
  7. Important: Place the valve train parts in a rack in order to ensure that they are installed in the same location from which they were removed.

  8. Remove the lifters.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 54701  Size: SH
  1. Coat the valve lifters using prelube GM P/N 1052367 (Canadian P/N 992869) or the equivalent.
  2. Install the valve lifters in their original locations.
  3. Install the lifter guide.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or the equivalent to the lifter guide bolts and install the bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  8. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  9. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  10. Inspect for leaks.
