Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 324925 Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  3. Remove the following from the steering shaft:
    4. 3.1. steering shaft seal (6)
    3.2. sensor retainer (5)
    3.3. lower spring retainer (4)
    3.4. lower bearing spring (3)
    3.5. lower bearing seat (2)
    3.6. adapter and bearing assembly (1)

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the following to the steering shaft:
    2. 1.1. adapter and bearing assembly (1)
    1.2. lower bearing seat (2)
    1.3. lower bearing spring (3)
    1.4. lower spring retainer (4)
    1.5. sensor retainer (5)
    1.6. steering shaft seal (6)
  2. Install the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  3. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
