J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 460574  Size: SH
  1. Remove the front seats. Refer to the following procedures in Seats:
  2. •  Split Bench Seat Replacement
    •  Front Seat Replacement - Bucket
  3. Remove the front floor center console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  4. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.
  5. Remove the front seat carpet retainers. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement .
  6. For the Impala, remove the following components:
  7. 5.1. The lower trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement
    5.2. The center pillar lower trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement
  8. Remove the rear lower quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement .
  9. Using J 38778 remove the push-in retainers which position the carpet on top of the rocker panels.
  10. Remove the carpet from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: In order to avoid personal injury or vehicle damage when you repair or replace the carpet, use the same thickness and material size as the original installation. Always return the carpet to the original location.

  1. Install the carpet into the vehicle.
  2. Reach under the carpet and feed the following connectors through the slits in the carpet where required:

    • The power seat adjusters
    • The vacuum connector
    • The seat belt warning wire connector
  3. Install the push-in retainers which hold the carpet on top of the rocker panels.
  4. Install the rear quarter lower trim. Refer to Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement .
  5. For the Impala, install the following components:
  6. 4.1. The center pillar lower trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement
    4.2. The lower trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement
  7. Install the front seat carpet retainers. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement .
  8. Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.
  9. Install the front floor center console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  10. Install the front seats. Refer to the following procedures in Seats:
  11. •  Split Bench Seat Replacement
    •  Front Seat Replacement - Bucket
