Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor Replacement Impala

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
2. Remove the center pillar lower trim. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
3. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint side impact sensor yellow 2-way harness connector.
4. Disconnect the inflatable restraint side impact sensor wiring harness connector.
5. Loosen the 2 inflatable restraint side impact sensor fasteners (2).
6. Remove the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (1) from the center pillar (3).

1. Install the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (1) to the center pillar (3).
2. Tighten the 2 inflatable restraint side impact sensor (1) fasteners (2).
3. Connect the inflatable restraint side impact sensor yellow 2-way harness connector.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the CPA to the inflatable restraint side impact sensor yellow 2-way connector.

Tighten
Use only hand tools to tighten the fasteners to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

5. Install the center pillar lower trim. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .

Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor Replacement Monte Carlo

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
2. Remove the left door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in Doors.
3. Remove the water deflector as required. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement in Doors.
4. Remove the inner energy absorber pad. Refer to Front Door Energy Absorber Pad Replacement in Doors.
5. Loosen the outer energy absorber pad top clip and pull the pad away from the outer door panel.



6. Remove the inflatable sensor (2) fasteners.
7. Slide the discriminating sensor out from behind its mounting bracket on the door impact beam (1).
8. Disconnect the inflatable restraint side impact sensor wiring harness connector.
9. Remove the inflatable restraint side impact sensor from the door.

1. Position the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (2) to the mounting bracket.
2. Connect the inflatable restraint side impact sensor yellow 2-way harness connector.

3. Install the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (1) fasteners.

Tighten
Use only hand tools to tighten the inflatable restraint side impact fasteners to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

4. Press the outer energy absorber pad toward the outer door panel and secure it with the clip.
5. Install the Inner energy absorber pad. Refer to Front Door Energy Absorber Pad Replacement in Doors.
6. Install the water deflector as required. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement in Doors.
7. Install the left door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in Doors.
8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
