Removal Procedure

Notice: Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.

Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.

  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  2. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector.

  6. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.

  7. Object Number: 178680  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
  9. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Bracket Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 180061  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the vacuum line from the throttle body.
  12. Remove the exhaust crossover. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  13. Object Number: 510497  Size: SH
  14. Remove the throttle body support bracket bolts.
  15. Remove the throttle body support bracket.

  16. Object Number: 203948  Size: SH
  17. Remove the throttle body nuts.
  18. Remove the throttle body assembly.
  19. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 203948  Size: SH
  1. Install the new gasket.
  2. Install the throttle body assembly.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the throttle body nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the throttle body support bracket.
  7. Install the throttle body support bracket bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the exhaust crossover. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  10. Object Number: 180061  Size: SH
  11. Connect the vacuum line to throttle body.
  12. Install the accelerator controls cable bracket. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Bracket Replacement .

  13. Object Number: 178680  Size: SH
  14. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.

  15. Object Number: 155464  Size: SH
  16. Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector.

  17. Object Number: 155466  Size: SH
  18. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector.
  19. Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement .
  20. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  21. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
