Circuit Description

The body control module (BCM) ground circuits provide ground for the 2 Theater Dimming systems for interior lamps, brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) solenoid, BCM electronics and the door locks.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B1349 Device Ground {single or 1} (chassis ground 1) Circuit Open

Conditions for Running the DTC

The BCM electronics ground must be connected to ground.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The BCM detects that any of its ground circuits are greater than 4 volts for longer than 300 milliseconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The interior lamps do not function correctly.
    • The brake transmission safety interlock may not function correctly.
    • The door lock features may not operate correctly.
    • The BCM stores DTC B1349 in memory.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC clears when the malfunction is no longer present.
    • A history DTC clears when the module ignition cycle counter reaches the reset threshold, without a repeat of the malfunction.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the following parameters in the body control module (BCM) input data list.
  4. • Theater Dim 1 Ground
    • Theater Dim 2 Ground
    • Doors System Gnd
    • Loads System Gnd
    • Electronic System Gnd

Does the scan tool display Active for all 5 parameters?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

3

Test the ground circuit that does not display Active in the previous step for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 4

4

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
