Makes 🢒 Chevrolet 🢒 2005 🢒 Impala 🢒 Transmission/Transaxle 🢒 Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E 🢒 Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the lower radiator air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  3. Position the drain pan under the transaxle.

  4. Remove the retaining bracket bolt (5) from the transaxle oil cooler hose/pipe retaining bracket (1).
  5. Disconnect the oil cooler lines quick connect fittings from the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65 - E.
  6. Remove the oil cooler pipes  (3,4) from the oil cooler fittings (2).

  7. Disconnect the lower oil cooler fitting from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65 - E.
  8. Remove the oil cooler lines from the lower fan shroud clip.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Disconnect the upper oil cooler fitting from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65 - E.
  11. Remove the oil cooler hose/pipes from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the upper oil cooler fitting to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65 - E.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Install the oil cooler lines to the lower fan shroud clip.
  4. Connect the lower oil cooler fitting to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65 - E.

  5. Install the oil cooler pipes (3,4) to the oil cooler fittings (2). Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65 - E.

    6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the transaxle oil cooler hose/pipes retaining bracket bolt (5).

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 4 N·m (27 lb in).

  7. Install the lower radiator air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  8. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.

    9. Notice: Refer to Transmission Overfill Notice in the Preface section.

  9. Adjust the fluid level.
  10. Inspect for fluid leaks. Refer to Fluid Leak Diagnosis .
