    • J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.

  5. Use J 38185 in order to position aside the heater hose inlet and outlet clamp at the heater core.
  6. Disconnect the inlet and outlet heater hose from the heater core.

  7. Object Number: 1118015  Size: SH
  8. Remove the evaporator tube to TXV block fitting nut (1).
  9. Disconnect the evaporator tube from the TXV.
  10. Remove and discard the seal washers.
  11. Remove the I/P lower trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

  13. Remove the retaining screw (1) from the panel air duct.
  14. Remove the retaining bolts from the panel air duct.
  15. Remove the panel air duct from the cross vehicle beam.

  17. Remove the retaining bolts from the right air duct.
  18. Remove the right air duct from the cross vehicle beam.
  19. Remove the bolts from the left side fuse block to cross vehicle beam.
  20. Remove the left side fuse block wire harness from the cross vehicle beam.
  21. Position the left side fuse block aside.
  22. Disconnect the wire harness connectors from the body control module.
  23. Disconnect the body control module from the cross vehicle beam.
  24. Remove the body control module from the vehicle.
  25. Disconnect any ground wires, as necessary.
  26. Remove the bolt from the right side fuse block to cross vehicle beam.
  27. Remove the right side fuse block wire harness from the cross vehicle beam.
  28. Position the right side fuse block aside.
  29. Remove the brake pedal. Refer to Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  30. Remove the 3 bolts from the brake pedal bracket to cross vehicle beam.
  31. Disconnect the electrical connector from the HVAC module assembly to main wire harness connector.
  32. Release the wiring harness retaining clips from the cross vehicle beam and position the wiring harness aside.

  34. Remove the bolts from the HVAC module assembly upper support.

  36. Remove the bolt (1) from the HVAC module assembly lower support.
  37. Remove the bolt (2) from the HVAC module assembly lower support.

  39. Remove the bolts from the right and left side of the cross vehicle beam.

  40. Object Number: 558194  Size: SH
  41. Remove the cross vehicle beam.

  42. Object Number: 1284759  Size: SH
  43. Remove the evaporator drain elbow.

  44. Object Number: 507700  Size: SH
  45. Remove the nuts which secure the HVAC module assembly to the dash.
  46. Remove the HVAC module assembly:
  47. 36.1. Pull the HVAC module assembly rearward to disengage the mounting studs from the dash panel.
    36.2. Position aside the dash insulator pad from the recirculation opening of the HVAC module assembly.
    36.3. Roll the HVAC module assembly downward and rearward to disconnect the heater core outlet cover from the rear floor air outlet duct.
    36.4. Remove the HVAC module assembly.

  48. Remove and discard all of the seals (1,2,3) from the outer HVAC module assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new seals (1,2,3) to the outer HVAC module assembly.
  2. Important:  When installing the HVAC control module, ensure that the dash insulator pad cut-outs and the HVAC seals, studs, and drain align and seal properly to the dash panel.

  3. Install the HVAC module assembly into the vehicle:
  4. 2.1. Align the heater core outlet cover to the rear floor air outlet duct.
    2.2. Roll the HVAC module assembly forward and upward and align the dash insulator pad to the recirculation opening of the HVAC module assembly.
    2.3. Align the mounting studs and the drain on the HVAC module assembly to seat against the dash panel.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the nuts which secure the HVAC module assembly to the dash.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the evaporator drain elbow.

  8. Object Number: 558194  Size: SH
  9. Install the cross vehicle beam to the vehicle.

  10. Object Number: 812572  Size: SH
  11. Install the bolts to the right and left side of the cross vehicle beam.
  12. Tighten the bolts to the right and left side of the cross vehicle beam in sequence.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  14. Install the bolts to the HVAC module assembly upper support.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  16. Install the bolt to the HVAC module assembly lower support (1).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  18. Install the bolt to the HVAC module assembly lower support (2).
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  20. Reposition the I/P wiring harness on to the cross vehicle beam and secure the retaining clips.
  21. Connect the electrical connector from the HVAC module assembly to main wire harness connector.
  22. Install the 3 bolts through the brake pedal bracket to the cross vehicle beam.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  24. Install the brake pedal. Refer to Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  25. Connect all disconnected ground wires.
  26. Install the body control module to the cross vehicle beam.
  27. Connect the wire harness connectors to the body control module.
  28. Install the left side fuse block to the cross vehicle beam.
  29. Install the bolts to the left side fuse block.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 in lb).

  31. Install the right side fuse block to the cross vehicle beam.
  32. Install the bolt to the right side fuse block.
  33. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 in lb).

  34. Install the right air duct to the cross vehicle beam.
  35. Install the right air duct bolts.
  36. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  37. Install the panel air duct to the cross vehicle beam.
  38. Install the panel air duct screw (1).
  39. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.8 N·m (16 lb in).

  40. Install the panel air duct bolts.
  41. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  42. Install the I/P lower trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  43. Install new seal washers on the evaporator tube. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .

  45. Connect the evaporator tube to the TXV.
  46. Install the evaporator tube to TXV block fitting nut (1).
  47. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  48. Connect the inlet and outlet heater hose to the heater core.
  49. Important: Reposition the heater core hose clamps in the indicated location.

  50. Use J 38185 in order to reposition the heater hose inlet and outlet clamp to the heater core.
  51. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  52. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  53. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  54. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
