The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The customer concern may be a accessory drive belt noise or drive belt damage.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If a vehicle has come in for accessory drive belt noise or the belt is damaged, the grooved idler pulley needs to be inspected for a extra dust shield. The idler pulley should have only one dust shield. If there are two dust shields installed on the pulley, the shields will deform when the pulley bolt is tightened. When the shield deforms, it may damage the idler pulley bearing.

Replace the grooved idler pulley and belt as needed. There have been no part number changes on the pulley. If needed, replace the grooved idler pulley with the current part number as listed in the GMSPO parts catalog.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
