Chime With Key Out Of Ignition And Remote Start Inoperative - keywords RKE RVS

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

A chime may be heard with the door open and the key out of the ignition. On vehicles equipped with remote start, when the remote start button is pressed on the keyfob after pressing the lock button, there will be lamp verification, but remote start will be inoperative as well.

If the Key In Ignition Switch sticks, the remote start will be inoperative (on vehicles equipped with remote start). Also, the Key In Ignition Chime to sound with the key out of the ignition and the door open. The likely cause is a nick in the plastic plunger on the micro switch.

Verify the scan tool, the Key In Ignition Status parameter is Inactive with the ignition OFF and key out of the ignition, If the status does not inactive, replace the ignition switch.

Note: When diagnosis leads to replacing the ignition switch (which contains the key in ignition micro switch) take special care not to nick or damage the new micro switch during installation.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
