The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Possible causes of wind noise have been identified from the front doors on the Impala.

Recommendation/Instructions:

One cause may be the black applique molding located at the rear edge of the door, gapping to its mating seal which lies against the door glass. The front edge of the black applique must not be outboard of the seal otherwise it may catch the wind passing over the door glass and create wind noise. If a gap exists, push firmly on the applique in three locations, at the top, center and bottom, with the palm of the hand, to insure that the applique is fully seated. An audible click may be heard from the applique as this is performed which indicates the molding may not have been fully seated in the attachment clips. Seating the applique should eliminate any gap between the applique and the seal.

Check the alignment of the fender to the front door just below the mirror area. The fender should be flush with the door or slightly outboard of the door. If the front edge of the door is outboard, it will catch the airflow and can cause wind noise. Also, check the alignment of the front door with the rear door. The rear door should be flush with or slightly outboard of the front door. This is especially important between the headers of the door above the belt line. Adjust the rear door inboard if required.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
