Condition

Some customers may comment on a windshield crack. Ask the customer to provide additional information about the crack. (Was something noticed before the crack formed? Did the customer see it form? Was the car parked, on rough roads, hot/cold temperatures, slammed car door, etc?)

Instructions

Important: Using a magnifying glass and a flashlight, verify that the crack occurred due to stress in the glass. Inspect for any signs of impact to the windshield. Disregard this bulletin if the crack was not caused by stress.

If a vehicle is encountered with the above concern, please follow these steps:

  1. Verify that the VIN and mileage are accurate.
  2. Record the build date of the vehicle.
  3. Gather the following details about the stress crack:
  4. • Did the crack originate at one of the edges of the windshield (A-pillar, cowl, roof) or away from all edges?
    •  If cracking is not at an edge, how far in and where from a reference point does the crack start?
    • What direction does the crack run (horizontal, vertical or diagonal)?
  5. Take digital pictures of the stress crack. If you do not have a digital camera, use the provided windshield graphic and mark the location of the crack in the windshield.
  6. Contact George Szegedy, GM Warranty Engineer at 1-248-676-7653 if the vehicle is located in Michigan.
