Accessory Drive Belt Noise - keywords chirp drive engine pulley squeal LZE LZ4 LZ9

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customers may comment that they hear a noise coming from the engine compartment. Others may describe the noise as a "chirp" or "squeal". Upon closer inspection you may find that the noise is coming from the accessory drive belt system.

Metro Detroit Dealers:

Engineering is looking for a vehicle in the "Metro Detroit" (Southeast Michigan) area that exhibits the described condition. Dealers in the "Metro Detroit" area that have such a vehicle should contact Jim Kelly at (586) 492-5612 BEFORE removing the drive belt or any components (e.g. pulleys). He will assist in making arrangements for Engineering to review the vehicle at your Metro Detroit area location. If you have already removed the belt or other components, then do NOT call and instead proceed to the "All Other Dealers" section.

All Other Dealers:

Continue with your diagnosis using the information in SI and make repairs as necessary. If your diagnosis leads you to replacing the belt or other components and doing so repairs the vehicle then contact Jim Kelly at (586) 492-5612. He will supply you with a parts waiver and information on where to send the belt or components to. Do NOT contact Jim Kelly if the parts replaced did not repair vehicle.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
