Subject: | Intermittent red OnStar® status LED |
Models: | 2008 Buick Lucerne |
| with STID range 18500001 - 20000000 (Gen 7.1L only) |
This PI was superseded to add STID ranges for easier identification of affected modules. Please discard PIC4819.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may report that the OnStar® status LED may be red, usually on vehicle startup. They may keypress into OnStar® and may be referred to the dealer for service due to a DTC found during a diagnostic probe. Technicians may find DTCs
U0151-00 U0155-00, U0140-00 and U0184-00 as history codes only in the VCIM. A customer may also note that a key cycle changes the LED back to green. When contacting OnStar® to find out what was found in the diagnostic probe OnStar® may report that
DTC B1000 or B2455 was found. These two DTCs are often not found using the TECH2.
Recommendation/Instructions:
DO NOT replace any modules. This condition applies only to Gen 7.1L VCIMs (LG) with a STID range of 18500001 - 20000000. Engineering has researched this issue and will be performing an OnStar "Over the Air" fix to all affected vehicles to correct a possible
customer symptom of intermittent red LED. This will not require a trip back to the dealership from the customer.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
