Passenger Front Seat Back Squeak/Creak/Pop/Clicking Noise (Install New Seat Back Cushion Support Kit)

This bulletin is being revised to update the Correction and Parts Information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-08-50-005A (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Some customers may comment on a squeak, creak, pop or clicking noise coming from the passenger front seat back assembly.

This condition may be caused by the seat back cushion support assembly rubbing inside the seat back frame.

Important: The new support springs will need to be installed and located to the upper tab positions in the seat back frame.

Install a new passenger (right) front seat back cushion lumbar support kit following the procedure below.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.
2. Position the passenger seat to the full forward and tilt up position.
3. Disconnect the seat belt anchor nut from the seat frame.
4. Remove the front passenger seat head restraint. Refer to Head Restraint Replacement in SI.
5. Remove the passenger front seat from the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement in SI.
6. Remove the front seat back finish panel. Refer to Driver or Passenger Seat Back Cushion Finish Panel Replacement in SI.

Tip
Use an extension with a 10 mm socket to help push the head restraint guide tabs together from inside the seat back assembly.

7. Remove the front passenger seat head restraint guides. Refer to Front Seat Head Restraint Guide Replacement in SI.
8. Remove the passenger front seat back cover and pad.

8.1.	Disconnect the seat back cover J-channels from the seat back frame.

8.2.	Remove the lower push pin retainers that secure the cover to the seat frame.

8.3.	Remove the inboard seat belt buckle bolt and buckle.





8.4.	Remove the two inboard seat back bolts (1).

8.5.	Disconnect the center seat back cushion cover J-channel.

8.6.	Push the front center J-channel toward the front of the seat.

8.7.	Remove the seat back cushion cover and pad from the seat back frame.

9. Remove the lumbar support assembly from the seat back frame.




9.1.	Remove the two lateral suspension springs (1) from the lumbar support (2) and the seat back frame.

9.2.	Remove the two lower lumbar support suspension attachment snaps (3) from the seat back frame.





9.3.	Swing the lumbar support forward and pull down to remove the two upper attachment wires (1) from inside the upper seat back frame.

9.4.	Discard the old lumbar suspension support and two springs.




10. Install the new lumbar suspension support by attaching the two lower snaps (1) into the seat back frame.
11. Install the two new lateral springs between the top two suspension wires.




11.1.

Install one lateral spring into the right upper tab (1) of the seat back frame attachment point.

11.2.

Install the second lateral spring into the left upper tab of the seat back frame attachment point.





11.3.

Install the opposite ends of the two lateral springs (1) between the two upper top lumbar suspension support wires.

12. Install the seat back pad and cover to the seat back frame.

12.1.

Install the seat back pad and cover to the seat back frame.

12.2.

Connect the center seat back cushion cover J-channel.

12.3.

Install the lower push pin retainers that secure the cover to the seat frame.

12.4.

Connect the seat back cover J-channels to the seat back frame.

12.5.

Install the two seat back bolts and tighten.

Tighten
Tighten the seat adjuster bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

12.6.

Install the seat belt buckle and bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the seat belt buckle bolt to 42 N·m (31 lb ft).

13. Install the front seat passenger seat head restraint guides.
14. Install the front seat back finish panel.
15. Install the passenger front seat back into the vehicle and connect the seat electrical connector.

15.1.

Install the front seat hooks into the floor pan.

15.2.

Install the rear seat adjuster bolts and tighten.

Tighten
Tighten the rear seat adjuster bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

15.3.

Install the seat belt to the seat frame.

15.4.

Install the seat belt anchor nut and tighten.

Tighten
Tighten the seat belt anchor nut to 42 N·m(31 lb ft).

16. Install the front passenger seat head restraint.
17. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.
