Spark Plug Replacement for Chevrolet Impala 2009
Removal Procedure
Caution: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads. Do not remove the spark plugs from a hot engine, allow it to cool first. Removing the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause spark plug thread damage
or cylinder head damage.
- Remove the spark plug wire. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Replacement.
- Loosen the spark plug 1 or 2 turns.
- Brush or using compressed air, blow away any dirt from around the spark plug.
- Remove the spark plug.
If removing more than one plug, place each plug in a tray marked with the corresponding cylinder number.
Installation Procedure
- Correctly position the spark plug washer.
- Inspect the spark plug gap. Adjust the gap as needed.
Specification
Spark plug gap: 1.016 mm (0.040 in).
- Hand start the spark plug in the corresponding cylinder.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Tighten the spark plug.
Tighten
Tighten the plug to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
