Special Tools

    • J 24402-A Glass Sealant Remover (Cold Knife)
    • J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool
    • Use a urethane adhesive systems which meet GM Specification GM 3651G:

Removal Procedure

    Warning: If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury.

    Note: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.

  1. Open the rear compartment lid in order to access the reveal molding.
  2. Disconnect the rear window defogger electrical connectors.
  3. Disconnect the rear window radio antenna connector. If equipped.
  4. Warning: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.

  5. Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
  6. • Upper dash pad
    • Defroster outlets and A/C outlets
    • Seats and carpeting

    Warning: Refer to Glass and Sheet Metal Handling Warning in the Preface section.

  7. Using a utility knife, carefully cut the rear window lace molding (1) in order to access the urethane adhesive bead.

  8. Object Number: 71179  Size: SH

    Note: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.

  9. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
  10. • Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
    • The only suitable lubrication is clean water.
    • Use J 24402-A , J 39032 or equivalent in order to remove the window.

  11. Remove the rear window (1) with the an assistant (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear window into the opening. Refer to Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows.
  2. Connect the rear window defogger electrical connectors. If equipped.
  3. Install the rear window radio antenna connector.
  4. Connect the OnStar® antenna, if equipped.
  5. Check the radio and OnStar® system to verify reception.

  6. Close the rear compartment lid.
  7. Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
