Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the timing belt and the timing belt tensioner. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 1224181  Size: SH
  4. Remove the camshaft gear bolt (1) and the camshaft gear from the camshaft (2).

  5. Object Number: 1222960  Size: SH
  6. Remove the timing belt rear cover bolts (1).
  7. Remove the timing belt rear cover (2).

  8. Object Number: 1224184  Size: SH
  9. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  10. Remove the oil pump strainer bolts (1).
  11. Remove the oil pump strainer with oil seal (2).

  12. Object Number: 1224185  Size: SH
  13. Remove the crankshaft gear (1) and oil pump bolts (2).

  14. Object Number: 1224186  Size: SH
  15. Remove the A/C compressor bracket and bolt (2).
  16. Clean the oil pump and engine block gasket mating surfaces.
  17. Remove the oil seal from the oil pump (3).
  18. Inspect the oil seal for damage.
  19. Remove the oil pump (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1222934  Size: SH
  1. Install a new oil pump and gasket. If the crankshaft front oil seal is damaged, replace the seal.
  2. When installing the crankshaft front oil seal to the oil pump, place the oil seal groove (1) faced toward the oil pump case contact surface (2) as shown in the illustration.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the oil pump strainer and bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9-12 N·m (80-106 lb in).

  6. Install the oil pump.
  7. Install the oil pump cover bolts (1).
  8. Install the timing belt rear cover bolts (2).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the cover bolts to 9-12 N·m (80-106 lb in).

  10. Install the A/C compressor bracket and bolt.
  11. Install the camshaft gear and bolt.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50-60 N·m (37-44 lb ft).

  13. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  14. Install the timing belt rear cover and bolts.
  15. Install the timing belt and the tensioner. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
