Rear Wheel Bearing End Play Inspection

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  3. Object Number: 1220915  Size: SH
  4. Check the wheel bearing play by moving the top and the bottom of the tire in an in-and-out motion.
  5. Specification
    The rear wheel bearing play is 0 mm (0 in).

  6. If the bearing play exceeds the specification, tighten the castellated nut. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  7. If the bearing play exceeds the specification after tightening, replace the wheel bearing. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  8. Lower the vehicle.

Rear Wheel Bearing Free Load Inspection

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  4. Object Number: 1220794  Size: SH
  5. Check the torque when the hub moves by a spring scale.
  6. Specification
    The standard-no load is 0.137-0.422 N·m (1.2-3.7 lb in).

  7. If the checked torque exceeds the specification, tighten the castellated nut. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  8. If the checked torque exceeds the specification after tightening, replace the wheel bearing. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
