Rear Wheel Bearing End Play Inspection
- Release the park brake.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Check the wheel bearing play by moving the top and the bottom of the tire in an in-and-out motion.
- If the bearing play exceeds the specification, tighten the castellated nut. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
- If the bearing play exceeds the specification after tightening, replace the wheel bearing. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle.
Specification
The rear wheel bearing play is 0 mm (0 in).
Rear Wheel Bearing Free Load Inspection
- Release the park brake.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Check the torque when the hub moves by a spring scale.
- If the checked torque exceeds the specification, tighten the castellated nut. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
- If the checked torque exceeds the specification after tightening, replace the wheel bearing. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
Specification
The standard-no load is 0.137-0.422 N·m (1.2-3.7 lb in).
