The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some 2003-2005 Chevrolet and GMC C65/C75/C85 Models with CAT LG5 Diesel Engine may experience low boost pressure due to the turbocharger hose contacting other mounting bolts and rubbing a hole through the hose.
The turbocharger hose expands (balloons) under boost pressure during normal engine operation. If the turbocharger assembly is improperly installed, there could be insufficient clearance between the expanded hose surface and other adjacent mounting hardware.
The turbocharger must be correctly positioned on its mounts per the following instructions to provide proper hose clearance:
Position (clock) the turbocharger in its mount so that the distance from the side of the engine cylinder head out to the nearest edge of the turbocharger air boost outlet is eleven inches (11" or 280mm).
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
