Subject: | Battery Light Illuminated After IPC or Generator Replacement |
Models: | 2003 -2006 Chevrolet Kodiak C6500, C7500, C8500 |
| 2003 -2006 GMC TopKick C6500, C7500, C8500 |
| Equipped with Diesel Engines |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
After replacing the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or generator on the models listed above the battery light within the IPC may be illuminated. This is a default mode of the IPC module program when it does not recognize that the truck is equipped with
a diesel engine option and turns on the IPC battery indicator. At this point the battery indicator within the IPC is latched and cannot be turned off with the Tech 2.
The battery light within the IPC is not used to indicate a battery and charging system concern on trucks equipped with diesel engines. The battery indicator within the Drivers Information Center (DIC) is used to indicate a concern with the battery and
charging system on trucks equipped with diesel engines.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Follow the procedure below to disable the battery light within the IPC.
• | Remove the IPC from the dash |
• | Carefully peel back the seal on the back side of the IPC enough to expose the battery indicator area |
• | Use a suitable tool (needle nose type pliers) to reach and disable the LED battery indicator bulb |
• | Press the IPC seal back into place and reinstall the IPC into the dash. |
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
