Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 202137  Size: LH

    Important: Both the rear and the front rear spring hangers are installed the same way. The spring hangers may require the removal of the frame rivets. If spring hangers are riveted, replace the rivets with the correct nuts and bolts and torque to the proper specification.

  1. Set the parking brake.
  2. Block the front wheels.
  3. Raise the frame until the tension is released from the spring and the hanger bolt.
  4. Remove the spring eye bolt (6) from the spring and the hanger (5).
  5. Remove the spring hanger rivets, if equipped.

  7. Remove the spring hanger to side member retaining nuts (2) and washers (3).
  8. Remove the spring hanger to side member bolts (6) and washers (5).
  9. Remove the spring hanger (1).

Installation Procedure

    Important: Both the rear and the front rear spring hangers are installed the same way. The spring hangers may require the removal of the frame rivets. If spring hangers are riveted, replace the rivets with the correct nuts and bolts and torque to the proper specification.

  1. Install the spring hanger bolts (6) and washers (5).
  2. Install the spring hanger to the side member.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the spring hanger washers (3) and nuts (2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the spring hanger nut to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  6. Raise the spring in order to align the spring eye and spring hanger holes.

  8. Install the spring eye bolt (6) in the spring-end hanger.
  9. Install the spring eye bolt washers and nuts.
  10. For tapered leaf springs, install the spring hanger rebound bolt.
  11. Install the spring hanger rebound washers and nuts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the rear spring hanger bolt to 415 N·m (305 lb ft).

  13. For multileaf springs, install the rear spring hanger bolt.
  14. Tighten

        • On 4500 and 5500 Series, tighten the spring eye bolts to 415 N·m (305 lb ft).
        • On 6500, 7500 and 8500 Series, tighten the spring eye bolts to 485 N·m (358 lb ft).
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Remove the blocks from the wheels.
