Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 199968  Size: SH
  1. Remove the drum. Refer to Propeller Shaft Parking Brake Drum Replacement .
  2. Remove the companion flange retainer bolt.
  3. Remove the companion flange at the transmission mainshaft.
  4. Remove the cotter pin and the clevis pin that hold the clevis at the operating lever (6).
  5. Remove the return springs.
  6. Remove the link (16).
  7. Remove the return spring.

  9. Remove the operating lever (1).
  10. Mark the operating lever (1) and the camshaft (2) in order to ensure proper assembly.
  11. Loosen the clamping bolt and the nut.
  12. Use a brass or hardwood punch in order to free the camshaft (2) from the operating lever (1).

  14. Remove the washer (10).
  15. Remove the camshaft (18).
  16. Remove the anchor pin nuts (3) and the washers (3), if necessary.
  17. Remove the camshaft support bracket (9), if necessary.
  18. Remove the anchor pins (13), if necessary.
  19. Inspect the camshaft support bracket (9) and the anchor pins (13) for distortion.
  20. Replace the camshaft support bracket (9) and the anchor pins (13), if necessary.

  21. Inspect the surface of the camshaft (18) where there is contact with the shoe webs for excessive wear.
  22. Replace the camshaft (18) and shoe webs, if necessary.

  23. Inspect the anchor pins (13) and the nuts (3) for nicked or sheared threads.
  24. Replace the anchor pins (13) and the nuts (3), if necessary.

  25. Inspect the camshaft (2) and the operating lever (1) for worn or stripped splines.
  26. Replace the camshaft (2) and the operating lever (1), if necessary.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 199968  Size: SH
  1. Lubricate the threads of the anchor pins (13) with GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N  993037) or equivalent if the anchor pins were removed.
  2. Install the anchor pins (13) if the anchor pins (13) were removed.
  3. Install the camshaft support plate (18) if the camshaft support bracket (9) was removed.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the spring washers (11) and the nuts (1) if the spring washers and the nuts were removed.
  6. Coat the camshaft (18) with GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N 993037) or equivalent.
  7. Spread the ends of the parking brake shoes apart.
  8. Center the camshaft (18) between the ends of the parking brake shoes.
  9. Install the camshaft (18) into the support plate (23) and the camshaft support bracket (9).
  10. Install the link (16).
  11. Install the return springs (14 and 19).
  12. Coat the washer (2) with GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N 993037) or the equivalent.
  13. Install the washer (2).

  15. Line up the marks on the camshaft (2) and the operating lever (1).
  16. The operating lever (1) must be held against the washer with the camshaft (2) against the link (4).
  17. Install the operating lever (1).
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the clamping bolt to 38 N·m (28 lb ft).

  19. Wrap the return spring (24) around the camshaft support bracket (9) and attach the spring ends.
  20. Install the following items:
  21. • The operating lever clevis
    • The clevis pin
    • The new cotter pin
  22. Install the companion flange and the retainer bolt to the transmission mainshaft.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the companion flange retainer bolt to 150 N·m (111 lb ft).

  24. Install the drum. Refer to Propeller Shaft Parking Brake Drum Replacement .
  25. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
