This bulletin is to inform dealers that an alternate locking differential carrier assembly is now available as a service update for the above-listed vehicles.
The locking differential that was installed in these vehicles is intended primarily for off-road applications. The normal characteristics of this locking differential include a relatively harsh engagement/disengagement and a noticeable ratcheting noise during cornering maneuvers. Some customers/dealers may consider this objectionable and may comment that they are not satisfied with the current differential performance in on-highway applications and in areas that require frequent and/or sharp turns.
For customers that may desire to have this service performed, replace the current locking differential with the revised carrier assembly. Follow the service procedures in the Rear Drive Axle sub-section of the service information. Use the part number(s) listed below.
