Service VME - 6.6L LB7 Diesel Engine Recapping Tool for Fuel System High-Pressure Side Diagnosis

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

This is a service VME going out to all Chevrolet and GMC light-duty/medium-duty dealers. This message is about recapping tool for fuel system high-pressure side diagnosis on the LB7 diesel engine. Technicians should be made aware that a new tool number, EN47589, has been shipped to Chevrolet and GMC dealerships. Tool number EN47589 are six caps that are utilized when diagnosing the Duramax diesel engine fuel injectors as directed in SI document number 864820, Fuel System Diagnosis High- Pressure Side. The caps are to be attached to the common fuel rail only as indicated in SI document number 864820. These caps should allow the technician to effectively use the diagnostic to identify injectors that have high fuel return rates and/or fuel leaking into the crankcase.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
