Subject: | Rear Shock Dust Boot Deformation |
Models: | 2007 Chevrolet Kodiak, Silverado |
2007 GMC Sierra, Topkick |
Cab/Chassis vehicles with the 6.6L Diesel Engine RPO Code LMM |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A dealer or customer may notice that the rear shock absorber dust boot is deformed. Shock absorber dust boot deformation can occur due to ride levels and exhaust angles before the vehicle has a bed and/or workbox (or other types of commercial bodies) installed.
If a dealer has found a deformed right rear shock, please replace the shock absorber. The original shock absorber has a plastic dust boot, and the replacement shock will have a metal dust boot.
At this time the replacement shock absorber is available through GMSPO using part number 25873412.
The replacement shock has the same internal workings as the original shock, so replacement of the right rear shock is all that is needed to repair the vehicle.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
