Equipped with the 8.1L engine and a LPG fuel system |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A dealer may encounter a medium duty vehicle with engine noise or driveability concerns. This PI only pertains to vehicles equipped with a Clean Fuel USA LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) fuel system. Engineering is interested in any 8.1L (RPO code L18) engines that have engine and/or piston damage when equipped with the Clean Fuel USA LPG system.
If a dealer does encounter a 8.1L LPG equipped engine with abnormal engine noises continue with compression, and cylinder leakage testing. If low compression or high cylinder leakages are found, engineering has requested a phone call before engine teardown.
Have a good description of the engine symptom, compression readings, and cylinder leakage readings ready before the call.
Dealers are to contact Brand Quality Manager Steve Bridson directly when they have experienced the condition described in this PI.
