Step Replacement Frame Mounted
Removal Procedure
- Remove the step bolts, nuts, and washers.
- Remove the step from the support.
- Remove the bolts, the washers, and the nuts from the frame rail to support
- Remove the supports from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolts, the washers, and the nuts to the frame rail
Tighten
Tighten the support to frame rail nuts to 165 N·m (122 lb ft).
- Install the step to the supports with nuts and bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the step to support nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
Step Replacement Fuel Tank Mounted
Removal Procedure
- Remove the upper step to the fuel tank bolts and washers.
- Remove the fuel tank cap. If you do not remove the fuel tank cap, the cap lanyard prevents the removal of the upper step.
- Remove the upper step from the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel tank cap.
- Remove the bolts, the washers, and the nuts from the lower step bracket.
- Remove the lower step from the brackets.
- Remove the fuel tank cap.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the fuel tank cap.
- Install the upper step to the tank.
- Install the fuel tank cap.
- Install the upper step to fuel tank bolts and washers.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Use the bolts, the washers, and the nuts in order to install the lower step to the brackets.
Tighten
• | Tighten the upper step fuel tank bolts to 39 N·m (29 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the nuts that secure the lower step to the bracket to 25 N·m (18 lb ft). |
