Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. The passenger power window switch on the master switch, shares common accessory voltage and ground circuits with the left front window. If the passenger power window operates properly from the master switch the accessory voltage and ground circuits can be presumed good.

Did you review the Power Windows Description and Operation?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Operate the driver power window from the master switch.

Does the driver power window operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Operate the passenger window from the master switch.

Does the passenger window operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Power Windows Inoperative - All

  1. Disconnect the driver power window motor.
  2. Connect a test lamp to a good ground.
  3. Probe the power window motor left front up circuit at the power window motor harness connector.
  4. Activate the driver power window switch in the up direction.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. With the test lamp still connected to a good ground, probe the power window motor left front down circuit at the power window motor harness connector.
  2. Activate the driver power window switch in the down direction.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Connect a test lamp between the power window motor left front up and down circuits at the power window motor harness connector.
  2. Activate the driver power window switch in the up and down directions.

Does the test lamp illuminate in both directions?

Go to Step 10

Test the power window motor left front up circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 13

Test the power window motor left front down circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the driver power window master switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the driver power window motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the driver power window master switch. Refer to Front Side Door Window Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
