The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment that it is difficult to add engine oil to the CAT Diesel Engine in 2003-2005 Medium Duty Conventional Models due to the location of the engine oil fill tube.
The oil fill tube is mounted low on the side of the CAT engine and access can be restricted by various hoses and lines routed in this area.
Engineering has released an extended oil fill tube to provide convenient access for adding oil to the CAT Engine. The extended oil fill tube can be installed on 2003-2005 models for customers seeking improved access to the oil fill tube and is a direct replacement for the original fill tube.
The following part numbers are available to install the extended oil fill tube on CAT Diesel Engines
Part Number | Description | Qty |
---|---|---|
10367226 | Oil fill tube Asm | 1 |
11516424 | Bolt-oil fill tube | 1 |
11516372 | Nut-oil fill tube | 1 |
10367233 | Cap-oil fill tube | 1 |
CAT P/N 249-8687 | Lower oil fill tube | 1 |
Note: The lower oil fill tube is a CAT part that mounts to the engine and is attached to the GM extended fill tube assembly. It is necessary to remove the original shorter fill tube and cap assembly but reuse the mounting gasket and retaining nuts. Torque the retaining nuts to 28 N-m.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
