The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some GMT 560 Medium Duty Conventional Models with either the CAT or Isuzu 7.8L diesel engine may experience A/C condenser to Turbocharger intercooler contact wear at the bottom support brackets due to insufficient clearance. The lower A/C condenser support
brackets may rub on and cause wear damage to the intercooler. If allowed to progress, the bracket can wear through the intercooler creating an air leak and reduced turbocharger boost to the engine.
If inspection indicates the lower A/C condenser support brackets are contacting the intercooler (see Photo #1), follow the instructions below to provide adequate clearance.
Recommendation/Instructions:
- Remove the retaining nuts from the lower A/C condenser mounting bracket studs.
- Place two (2) flat washers on each stud between the mounting bracket and the A/C condenser support bracket to space the support bracket away from the turbocharger intercooler (see Photo #2).
- Reinstall retaining nuts on the mounting bracket studs and inspect the A/C Condenser support brackets to see they do not contact the turbocharger intercooler.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
