Tools Required

    • J 39232 Wiper Transmission Separator
    • J 39529 Wiper Transmission Installer

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 497992 Size: SH
  1. Remove the wiper arms. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .
  2. Remove the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor.

    4. Object Number: 497998 Size: SH
  4. Remove the 4 retaining bolts securing the wiper system drive module to the plenum.

    5. Object Number: 498000 Size: SH
  5. Remove the wiper system drive module from the vehicle.

    6. Object Number: 306506 Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the drive link from the wiper motor crank arm using the J 39232 .

    7. Object Number: 498003 Size: SH
  7. Remove the 4 pivot housing screws.
  8. Remove the wiper transmission from the wiper drive system module.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 498003 Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Position the wiper drive system to the wiper transmission and install the 4 screws.

    2. Apply Loctite® Blue, GM P/N 12345382 or (Canadian P/N 10953489), or equivalent to the pivot housing screws.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4 N·m (44 lb in).

    Important: If the 5 N·m (44 lb in) minimum torque is not achieved or the plastic pivot housing is damaged or cracked, then the wiper transmission must be replaced.

  2. Replace the wiper transmission.

  3. Connect the drive link onto the wiper motor crank arm using the J 39529 .

    4. Object Number: 498000 Size: SH
  4. Install the wiper drive system module on the vehicle.

    5. Object Number: 497998 Size: SH
  5. Install the 4 bolts.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  6. Connect the electrical connector to the wiper motor.
  7. Install the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  8. Install the wiper arms. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .
  9. Operate the wipers and inspect for proper operation.
