Special Tools

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
2. Remove the camshaft assembly. Camshaft Replacement .
3. Remove the valve bridge.
4. Remove the glow plugs. Refer to Glow Plug Replacement .
5. Install the J 36022 adapter to the cylinder head.
6. Apply compressed air into the cylinders to hold the valves in place.



7. Install the J 43263 to the cylinder head to compress the valve spring.
8. Remove the valve keys.
9. Carefully release the valve spring tension.
10. Remove the valve spring retainers.
11. Remove the inner and outer valve springs.
12. Remove the valve spring seats.



13. Remove the valve seals.

Important: Lubricate the new valve stem seals with clean engine oil.

1. Install the valve stem seals using the J 43267 .
2. Install the valve spring seats.
3. Install the inner and outer valve springs.
4. Using the J 43263 compress the valve spring.
5. Install the valve keys.
6. Carefully release the valve spring tension making sure the valve keys stay in place.
7. Install the valve bridge.
8. Install the glow plugs. Refer to Glow Plug Replacement .
9. Install the camshaft assembly. Refer to Camshaft Replacement .
10. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
