Diagnostic Instructions
DTC Descriptor
DTC B1001: Option Configuration Error
Circuit/System Description
When the ignition is turned ON, the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) compares the restraints ID stored in the SDM to the restraints ID stored in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The restraints ID being compared contains the last
4 digits of the SDM part number. For more detailed information concerning the class 2 data lines, refer to
Data Link Communications Description and Operation
.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | The SDM disables all AIR BAG deployments. |
• | The SDM requests the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to illuminate the AIR BAG indicator. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists. |
• | A history DTC will clear once 255 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred. |
Diagnostic Aids
DTC B1001 is an indication that the restraints ID stored in both the IPC and SDM do not match. If either the IPC or engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) were replaced, the replacement modules needs to be reprogrammed for proper
operation.

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON, with the scan tool, verify that the ECM/PCM is programmed with the correct VIN.
⇒ | If the VIN is incorrect, program the correct VIN into the ECM/PCM. |
- Verify that the IPC was not replaced.
⇒ | If the IPC was replaced, properly synchronize the new IPC with the SDM. |
- Ignition ON, with the scan tool, clear the DTCs. DTC B1001 should not reset.
⇒ | If DTC B1001 resets, replace the SDM. |
