Subject:Idle Shutdown Feature and ECM Programming

Models:2008 Chevrolet Kodiak
2008 GMC Topkick
Equipped with the 6.6 Duramax Diesel engine RPO code LMM

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Certain 2008 Kodiak or Topkick trucks equipped with the 6.6 Duramax diesel engine (RPO LMM) have been equipped with an idle shutdown feature (RPO CTF). There are two idle shutdown features (if equipped with RPO CTF) programmed into the vehicle depending on parking brake use.

  1. The engine will automatically shutdown after 15 minutes of idle time in Park or Neutral (no parking brake applied).
  2. The engine will automatically shutdown after 5 minutes of idle time in Park or Neutral (parking brake applied).

Please see SI document titled "Engine Idle Control System Description" for a complete description of this feature.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Once a production ECM is set with or without the idle shutdown feature at the vehicle assembly plant, it cannot be changed in service. Additionally, all service ECMs will have this feature disabled.

If replacing or reprogramming the ECM on any 2008 Kodiak or Topkick equipped vehicle, the TIS terminal/Tech 2 may have an error message when attempting to download the calibration. If an error code is experienced while programming a 2008 Kodiak or Topkick, the dealer will have to contact Techline for assistance.
