    • J 42845 Crankshaft Balancer Installer
    • J 42847 Flywheel Holding Tool

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

    Note: 

       • Ensure the teeth of the flywheel holding tool engage the engine flywheel teeth.
       • The balancer should be positioned onto the end of the crankshaft as straight as possible prior to tool installation.

  1. Install the J 42847 holding tool to the starter bolt holes. Tighten the J 42847 holding tool bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  2. Object Number: 639537  Size: SH

    Note: Apply grease or clean engine oil to the inside of the crankshaft balancer or the end of the crankshaft to prevent galling during assembly.

  3. Install the balancer and the J 42845 installer onto the end of the crankshaft.

  4. Object Number: 639539  Size: SH

    Note: Apply the lubricant that comes with the J 42845 installer each time the tool is used. Failure to lubricate the J 42845 installer may prevent the balancer from installing completely.

  5. Use the J 42845 installer  (1) in order to install the balancer.
  6. Caution: Ensure the crankshaft balancer is installed to the proper depth. The crankshaft balancer nose must be seated against the crankshaft sprocket. Failure to install the crankshaft balancer properly may result in improper torque to the crankshaft balancer bolt. An improperly torqued crankshaft balancer bolt may loosen causing serious engine damage.

  7. Tighten the J 42845 installer until the crankshaft balancer is completely seated against the crankshaft sprocket.

  8. Object Number: 639542  Size: SH
  9. Remove the J 42845 installer from the crankshaft.

  10. Object Number: 470799  Size: SH
  11. Install the crankshaft balancer washer and bolt. Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 255 N·m (189 lb ft).

  12. Object Number: 1351830  Size: SH
  13. Remove the J 42847 holding tool .
